Bicycle Columbus has opened a search for its first full-time Executive Director (ED). The ED will report to the BC Board and be BC’s only paid staff member. The primary duties will be to complete the following duties described in BC’s Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) grant:
- Maintaining the GOHS grant with timely and accurate reports, statements, and correspondence.
- Manage education and outreach programs by producing and distributing safety guides, attending community events, maintaining the BC website and media channels, and serving as the primary organizer of BC events and rides.
- Advocate for improved bicycling and walking conditions by bringing BC’s message to appropriate governments and agencies and marshaling BC membership to do the same.
- Organize a bicycle conditions audit and a pedestrian conditions audit annually in Columbus and report findings to the membership and appropriate agencies.
- Stay current in the areas of urban design, advocacy, and safety for walking and cycling, and cultivate partnerships with other organizations with compatible missions.
About Bicycle Columbus
Bicycle Columbus was established in 2012 and promotes bicycling and walking for transportation and recreation in Columbus, Georgia. It pursues this mission through four primary channels: Advocacy, Outreach and Education, Events, and Partnerships. BC has played a role in Columbus’ Alternative Transportation Plan, Complete Streets policy, and Safe Streets for All Action Plan. BC circulates a newsletter with 700 subscribers, distributes safety materials and kit, organizes the annual Bike with the Mayor and other Bike Month events, conducts annual bike rides, and partners with many organizations, including the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Dragonfly Trails, Midtown Columbus, the River Valley Regional Commission, Go Georgia, and others. Hiring a full-time Executive Director will be a major step forward in BC’s pursuit of its mission.
Qualifications
Required:
- Knowledge in the areas of urban design, liveability, pedestrian and cycling facilities, and safe streets (Safe Systems Approach, Vision Zero, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
- Facility with data analysis and office productivity software.
- Excellent writing skills and confidence with public speaking.
- Self direction and motivation, ability to set goals, prioritize, and complete projects.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred:
- Background in transportation advocacy, education, or community programming.
- League Cycling Instructor certification.
